Rare Musical Post

I’m so sad. I played the heck out of Keane’s last album, earning as high as a silver award for most plays on the Zune social. I felt the music more than I heard it. I even vidded two of the songs off the last album, and that’s really saying something. Perfect Symmetry is nearly a perfect disappointment. I don’t know what is going on with the vocals, but the serious ode to the 80s just isn’t working for me. The final track is a mellow, somewhat repetitive song that I have played quite a bit, but I’m going to give the rest of it about one more play before I give up on it forever.

I was similarly disappointed with the new Travis album. Keane and Travis say they want to branch out and try new things. Hey, guys? Don’t. You were so awesome because of your respective signature sounds. Try new things in your garages, not the studio. What can I look forward to hearing now? Snow Patrol, anyone?

The past two days have seen me having quite a fun time.  I went to the ER Monday morning with what I knew was a kidney infection due to the fever and intense pain I had in my back.  Yup.  Sure was.  As the day progressed, my slightly sore throat turned into the worst I’ve ever had, so much so that I couldn’t eat and my fever returned.  My teeth ached so badly that chewing was out of the question, but it didn’t matter; I couldn’t even swallow saliva without agonizing pain.  Mom had enough of it and forced me to see yet another doctor last evening.  After a quick injection of steroids and penicillin, I woke up this morning in a pool of sweat with a HUGE smile on my face.  I was better!  Completely!  I’ve never thought such a turnaround could be possible, but it happened.  It could also be due to the homemade biscuits and gravy my mom made just for me.

Now, geekspeak.  Coldplay’s album is laughably bad.  Maybe it will grow on me, but it’s definitely not on the level of the last one.  Awww.  Too bad that 1) I don’t care for Lost anymore 2) I don’t vid anymore.  There are two songs I could make the most corny vids to.  One is actually titled “Lost” and would be a good Locke vid, no?  The next is “42″ and has Hurley written ALL OVER IT.(”Those who are dead are not dead/They’re just living in my head.”) Bwa!  I have no doubt those vids will be made by others, and done well, of course.  I imagine there will be one of the “Lost” song for every character at some point.  It’ll be interesting to watch.

Hmm, dunno.

I’m anti-drug so much it makes me ill just to think of drugs–even weed. That said, is it wrong that I can listen to The Dave Matthews Band for hours on end? Is it even worse that I can listen to “Satellite” alone for hours on end?

Not a lot going on around here, just work, homework, and waiting for my niece to arrive.  She’s due to come just about anytime now.  *Gah*

Lord of the Rings Lothlorien Gift Pack It shipped! In no time at all, I’ll have my supercool Lothlorien gift pack. I can’t wait until Hobbit and I get our own place so I can set up all our toys. :clown:

It was ten years ago that the Oklahoma City bombing occurred. That’s (selfishly) sad to me. Ten years ago, I was fresh out of grad school and working in NC (for the first time). Since then, I’ve been a few places and done a few things, but I’m still no closer to figuring out the rest of my life. Sadly, I’m not even concerned about it. The fact that I’m not is probably the scariest part. I’m just a little too content right here….and I soooo shouldn’t be.

Football news: Sam Mills died. I’m sure if you need to hear the details, you know how to find them. I really liked him and hate to see a non-jock superstar go so young. He’ll have company soon, though. ESPN just acquired the rights to Monday Night Football. It’s as good as dead. MNF belongs on ABC. Why? Because it does.

I listened to Garbage’s new CD. I like it, but I was really hoping for some vid inspiration. I didn’t get that. Oh well. Let’s go play with the old toys while we await the new!
[Edit: man, tons of news today. New pope. Rob and Amber were married Saturday. I guess I'm happy for them :cussing:]

Soundtrack Review

I’ve read tons of reviews of ROTK, but very few reviews of the soundtrack. First off, let me say that there is too much singing on here. Not the singing by Billy Boyd or Viggo Mortensen (mmm), but by the “choir” that sings in Sindarin. Anyway…I’ve listed the actual name of the track followed by the title/descriptor that I use.

1. A Storm is Coming (You ain’t kiddin’ buddy! or Smeagol’s Song)
2. Hope and Memory(Pretty song…SHOW THE MEN NOW)
3. Minas Tirith (Ride, Gandalf, ride like the wind!)
4. The White Tree (Keep riding, Gandalf!)
5. The Steward of Gondor (Faramir’s Song….oooh, Faramir galloping out on the field, mmmmm. Oh, and nice job, Pippin.)
6. Minas Tirith (Spooooky!)
7. The Ride of the Rohirrim (The Two Towers was better)
8. Twilight and Shadow (Arwen gets PISSED OFF; I like this track)
9. Cirith Ungol (Go home, Sam!)
10. Anduril (Yeah, but this should have happened in the first movie…hmmph)
11. Shelob’s Lair (OK, screechy violins, we GET it already)
12. Ash and Smoke (I can’t place this in the movie at all…hmm)
13. The Fields of the Pelennor (There was music there?!? Great ending)
14. Hope Fails (–as does this track)
15. The Black Gate Opens (My favorite track; Ooh, look at Aragorn with his hair fixed; Run, Frodo, Run…oops, Get up, Frodo, Get up!; Fight a little more; No, Sam, I don’t even like strawberries; Ruuu-dy, Ruuu-dy, er, um, Sam-wise)
16. The End of All Things (Ah, but we know better; Too much singing; Gollum feels pretty, oh so pretty; I was waiting for this part: Barad-dur crumbles)
17. The Return of the King (at over 10 minutes, it’s long, but good; mmmm, Viggo. Love the subtle changes to the main themes)
18. The Grey Havens (Bittersweet to say the least)
19. Into the West (This is the song by Annie Lennox. I believe that Leon said it best when he said that this song exists soley to allow Annie to scream at chosen intervals, ruining an otherwise terrific theme.)

There are only two things I would have added, and they are merely sound clips. It would have been great to have the cries of the Nazgul and the jazzy horn of the Mumakil driver.
