Dark Prospect

Jul 18, 2008 in:

Am I the only one in America who’s not interested in The Dark Knight?  There is absolutely no chance that I’ll see it in a theater, and there’s little chance that I’ll even dl it.  I’m sure it’s actually, you know, dark, as in brightness, and that doesn’t bode well for dl’s.  Meh.  Just tell me what happens and it will be as good as being there….better even.

SGA is on tonight.  Whoop-de-doo.  I used to love Fridays for that very reason, but this is a Keller ep, so, Bah!  Maybe I’ll hold today’s recordings of Voyager and watch them later instead.  Hey, either way, it’s a Picardo kind of night, no?

My grandmother came out of her surgery much better for it.  They removed some clots and infection and she’s on her way home.  Dad said we might try to make Mom go out for steak tonight, and I certainly hope we do.  There’s a new dish at Texas Steakhouse I want to try:

Coffee Rubbed Steak Skillet: Mesquite-grilled filet tips hand-seasoned with ground coffee and Texas spices served sizzlin’ hot over chipotle BBQ red-eye gravy on a bed of red bliss potatoes, sautéed mushrooms and spicy roasted corn ‘n peppers. Garnished with fresh sliced jalapeños for that added kick.

Yum.

Omens, good.

May 13, 2008 in:

Thanks to a wonderfully geeky transfer student, I was loaned a well-worn copy of Good Omens this weekend. I’ve been urged by Ben to try out Terry Pratchett, but something about the student’s enthusiastic offering of his book made me break down and read it. Though it’s actually by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, it should count toward Ben’s column, no? For a quick little read, I found it charming. Fortunately, I was able to discard the environmental junk and focus on the humor. I’m lucky that way. I’ll seriously consider reading Hitchhiker’s Guide at some point.

Two more British familial castings I knew nothing about: Lupin (HP) is married to with Chuck (PD). Wow! Also? The Doctor’s daughter, IS The (Fifth) Doctor’s daughter. *head spins*

Hurray for Election Day, even if I have no need of primaries. Being a republican in a democrat state gives me nothing more than a day off work; which I’ll take. Oh, and the day is made all the better by the SG-1 marathon (of sorts) on Sci-Fi!

Scotti!

Apr 03, 2008 in:

Here’s one of the first pictures of Scotti Lee on her first day at home. Nanny, Cage and Aunt Jenn spent the day getting everything ready for her and she arrived home at around 2:00pm.

If you look at pictures of my brother when he was a baby, you’d see a huge resemblance. I hope to get a picture of her with her eyes open, but that rarely seems to happen when I’m around.

Oh, and I can’t say I’ve never held a baby anymore. I held her. Twice. Go me!

Sadly, I have to return to work tomorrow. It’s been nice having this mini-vacation.

In other news, um, there isn’t any.

Everything You Know

Feb 03, 2008 in:

As a child, an animated version of The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe scarred me horribly. I was devastated beyond belief, so much so, that I blocked it from my mind and remembered nothing except a good lion was shaved and killed in a most degrading and horrific manner.

Because of the trauma, I suppose, I never knew anything about Prince Caspian. The trailer for the movie is out and I have to admit that I am excited about it. It looks like something I may just love. However, if anyone is familiar with the story and knows of any more lion death, please let me know so I won’t watch or read. I can’t take that kind of trauma again. Thanks.

You, Sir!

sween.jpg You, Sir, should see Sweeney Todd. Yes, there is gore, but it’s more of a theatrical sort; not too bad. Oh, and yes, it sometimes feels like “Willy Scissorhands Sparrow”. There is, however, one sequence where Depp transcends everything he’s ever done and becomes the face of madness. The street sequence may possibly be my favorite scene of the year; hell, of the decade! I’m not normally one to swoon over him, but in that moment of crazed desire for vengeance, I can see the attraction.

Thanks, Flo, for dragging me to Beckley to see the movie. I’m thrilled that I did.

Seconds, anyone?   :smoke:

It’s a snowday! :cold: It’s also frigid out there. Not frigid, however is Lady Chatterley. Thanks to Jonas, my longest standing Amazon wishlist item is MINE! From the hundreds of screencaps I’ve seen of Sean Bean as Mellors, I can tell that it’s going to be amazing. I’m using the DVD as a reward for packing up the Christmas things and getting the kitchen back in order.

Thanks to Ben and Jesse, I am the extremely proud owner of the 2008 LOTR Wall Calendar, which now fetches $100 on the street. A three disc collection of Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, Summer Rental, and Foul Play makes the holiday complete.

Thanks, guys!

Pirates, you say?

Here’s my entire review of Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End:

Wha?

In other news, I’m now watching Series One (finally) of Robin Hood.
